What first got you into music?

I’ve been singing since I was young, but I asked my parents to put me into lessons as a kid, and that’s where I truly started to fall more in love with it. A few years later I started taking piano lessons and writing, so that’s when I really got into wanting to be an artist and songwriter.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

My music falls under the umbrella of pop music, but I’m inspired and influenced by so many different genres that it really depends on the song. I’d describe my songwriting as honest, emotional, empowering, and vulnerable.

What is your creative process like?

I typically write about my own life experiences and feelings, so a lot of my songs come from processing those emotions. But I usually start with a concept or title, and then move into lyrics and melody. I also love co-writing with other writers and producers, so I do a lot of that as well.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

I have such a long list of people, but some of the top would be Ariana Grande, Rihanna, and Khalid, as well as Benny Blanco on the writing/producing side.

If you could go open a show for any artist who would it be?

I would LOVE to open for Ariana Grande.

What’s next for you?

I just released my album “Real Talk” which is really exciting! I also have my single “Something To Prove” coming out October 14th!

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

I do. Honestly, a lot of the time it’s songs I’ve just written or heard that are still in my head, but my classic go-to song is At Last.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

To not be afraid of collaboration. When I first started writing I was so nervous and skeptical of co-writing with other people, as it can be scary getting so vulnerable with others. But collaboration and co-writing truly opens up a whole different world of opportunities for music.

Which famous musicians do you admire?

My idol has always been Amy Winehouse. Everything about her voice, lyricism, and artistry has inspired me so much and still does. Another artist that I idolized was Michael Jackson, he’s just the king of pop; no one can compare. Otherwise, I love Ariana Grande, Kehlani, Khalid, SZA, among others.

What is the first thing you listen for when listening to a new recording?

When I’m listening to the first passes of my own music, I’m primarily focused on how the vocals sound, and then if the production is right after that. I think as a singer it can be hard to focus on everything else if the vocal isn’t how you want it.

What is your dream venue to perform at?

Honestly, I was going to say Madison Square Garden (which is still a dream venue) but the ultimate dream venue for me would have to be Rogers Arena because it’s in my hometown. I grew up going to concerts there and playing a show there would be an absolute dream.

What’s your motto or some good advice that you live by?

To not be afraid of failing. I used to be so scared of failure, and I was really just getting in my own way. Failure is inevitable and necessary for success.
