Can you tell me about how you selected your shooting outfit?
Since I shot this at home in my closet, I really wanted to have fun with the look. I got this dress a few seasons ago for fashion week and just love it so much, it’s one of my favorite statement pieces! Then for the shoes I wanted another pop and these polka dot platforms felt like the perfect fit. The purple sock was just a little Caroline touch, I always say to expect the unexpected with my looks and felt like the sock just tied the whole look together.
Where would you search for clothes?
When it comes to building a wardrobe I feel like I search everywhere. I love little flea markets and vintage stores. Vintage clothing has become a big part of my wardrobe because the pieces are so unique. I never want to look like anyone else when it comes to fashion, so vintage clothing helps me achieve that.
How would you source rare items?
I do a lot of searching online. I always love places like eBay and Poshmark, you never know what you might find. And one of my favorite vintage stores is Arcade in Brooklyn, they always have such unique pieces.
The job of a stylist can be very stressful at times. How do you want to cope with the pressure?
Working in the fashion industry can definitely be stressful. When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I try my best to take a step back from my work and figure out what’s causing the stress. Putting your mental health first is always so important, so making “me time”, whether it’s just watching my favorite movie or snuggling with my cats, always helps me decompress, re-energize and refocus. If I’m stressed with work, making lists and getting organized always helps as well!
How would you describe your approach to Fashion Stylist?
Fashion is the ultimate armor. Clothes can instantly lift your mood and make you feel like you can try to do anything. My approach to styling is to put people in pieces that make them feel good (and of course look good) because at the end of the day if you feel confident in an item, others can always tell. And the reverse is the exact same if you’re not comfortable and confident.
Are You a 'People' Person?
I like to think so! But I also always joke that I’m an extroverted introvert. Meaning that I do love going out and meeting new people, but then when I’m done I need alone time to recharge my battery. It’s all about balance!
What types of books or magazines do you typically read?
My usual reading is always still fashion focused. Vogue, Elle and Cosmo are three of my favorite magazines. And I recently got the book by Jane L. Rosen called “A Shoe Story” and can’t wait to dive in.
What is your ideal working environment?
My closet is my office! I love being in my closet with my tripod, surrounded by my clothes. I feel like my best ideas happen in there.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I love to travel. Almost every weekend in the summer I try to get to the beach because I just find it so relaxing. I come from a pretty big family, so spending time surrounded by family is always my favorite. Especially when I’m stressed or overwhelmed, taking a step back and seeing family is always the best.
How would you define success?
There’s so many ways to define success today. For me, I think success is doing what I love and being truly happy. I feel so blessed that I have my dream job in fashion, of course it comes with the good and the bad. But the creative freedom it allows is everything for me.
What do you think of vintage clothing?
Vintage clothing is my favorite. Every piece tells a story. When I find a truly special vintage piece, it’s like finding a buried treasure.
How would you describe fashion week?
In my book, “Making it in Manhattan,” I describe fashion week as back to school. It’s a time where you’re reunited with old co-workers, colleagues and friends and truly feels like the first few days back to school.
