How did you start acting and why did you choose acting?

I did some magazines cover in my twenties and it allowed people to discover me. Especially after I got invited to “Tout le monde en parle” the biggest talk show in Quebec, I got proposed for the first role in a series. I did it, it was so much fun, I really enjoyed it. At that time, I just finished college in apparel management. I was starting my first company and honestly, I hated it. It was an office job, which is not for me, but I didn’t realize yet that acting could be something that I could do for a living because I might think at that time that work was supposed to be difficult and boring. It’s only years after when I decided to stop working in fashion, I asked myself what I would like to do and then I remembered that I really enjoyed working in TV & Film. So, I decided to take it more seriously and I took classes, etc. Now I am waiting for my visa to be able to work in the USA. Acting it’s what I love to do. Being on set makes me so happy. I realized it when I had to do 12 hours on set many times and I was so patient also I didn’t mind wake-up early even if I usually don’t like to wake up early. This was just a confirmation that I love it. I can’t say it’s easy because it’s not there is always a lot of rejection but I am so grateful every time I get a part that beats the difficulty I can encounter.

Who is your inspiration?

My inspiration was always Julia Roberts. I really love everything she did and she still does. I had the chance to be at the premiere of her new Movie “Ticket to Paradise” with George Clooney. It was the first time I saw her in person. I have huge respect for those 2. Julia Roberts is versatile and she is so much fun to watch and she seems a very good human being. And her smile… she’s just perfect. George Clooney is a huge inspiration too because his breakthrough was around, I believe, 35 years old. Besides being handsome, he is also an excellent businessman which I appreciate because I also love business and that gives me so much inspiration and motivation. But my recent favourite is Julia Garner. She impressed me so much with all her roles. She’s amazing. I really love Joaquin Phoenix’s acting style. There are so many good actors that inspire me, it made it difficult to tell you all of them but those I just mentioned are obviously my favourite.

Which role that you have played you like the most?

I most recently played a psychotherapist and I am so grateful because I want to play those kinds of roles. I was usually cast as the "wife" or the "sexy" and it’s time for me to level up and get more serious and important roles. Attractive women can definitely play powerful, strong, and intelligent roles too.

What do you think success is easier to achieve, or it is not meant for everybody?

Success is for everyone. Success is a concept that is different for every person. Whether it means having a great career, a home, or a family, success is something that is totally attainable for everyone. It is a mindset that one must adopt to accomplish goals and grow as a person, and it takes consistency, love for what you do - want, effort, perseverance, and obviously strong belief that it’s possible. Our worst enemy is often ourselves. We create our own barriers in our minds.

What, according to you, is the best part of your work?

The best part is when people enjoy what you do. When they watch something and they live on a roller coaster of emotions. I played a role in a series and I was dying, people, I know were shocked! I really liked that, it means that was good enough for them to live a strong emotion. To be honest I love all the processes. I must, because from the time a project starts to the time it is visible to the public it takes so much time! And I am not talking about all the rejection I get, I love all of it. Yeah, I am maybe crazy but that’s true, I love the time that I’m struggling to get something, and finally, have it (or sometimes not) it is a part of the game and I enjoyed it because it makes it interesting and it’s always new. Always a new story, always a challenge, and always new goals.

Are there things you want to do other than acting?

I already do something else. I create and sell high-end perfume online: www.Anne-Krystel.ca/en and most recently I started selling beauty products from other brands and I am now also offering personalized meditation. I want people to wear my fragrances to find themselves in a state of confidence and calm. I know fragrances influence various mental and physical human conditions. I also have a philanthropic side that complements my passion for fragrance and skincare. I donate a portion of my revenue to the David Lynch Foundation, an organization that provides healing and empowerment through an evidence-based transcendental meditation technique.

What is your strength as an actress?

Observation and listening. I know may sound weird because actors talk a lot in movies or on TV but I believe the best actors need to be good listeners, so I consider it as a strength. Also, authenticity. That’s also why I practice meditation on daily basis. To stay aligned, grounded, and to be present: to live here and now.

How do you rehearse a scene if the other actress you need to interact with within the scene is not available?

Unless the director asked me to, I never rehearse a scene with the actor before doing it for real. I simply learn what I need to learn, and I give it my personal touch to embody the character. It’s preferable to have a surprise effect and go with the flow of it. That’s why listening and being present are extremely important.

What techniques do you use to create a believable character?

The technique I prefer is instinctive and authentic. When I get to work on a script or character, I let go of this idea of the character being out there in the distance. The character is within. Each of us possesses all the human qualities of every character we might ever play. I often ask myself how I would feel if? And I use an element of truth in my real life in this new me that I create. For example, if I need to be sad because my friend died in the story, I will see in my mind a real friend of mine dying, and then I will start instinctively to really feel pain and sadness.

How do you manage your personal and professional life?

I must say that my professional life takes up almost all my time now. I do take time for my personal life once in a while, but I am often alone and that’s ok with me.

Can you tell us a bit about your next project?

I have a project that will come out in 2023 and I am so excited about it. I worked on this project with a young director, his name is Sami, and it is his first movie and it is very well done. It’s a story about gangs and it’s called 514. It was the first time but certainly not the last working with him. He’s as passionate as I am, and it is fun to work with that kind of person. We motivate each other all the time.

Do you still get nervous going in front of the camera?

Honestly, I can say a little nervous. I must say that it is manageable because my preparation is on point and feel calmer doing meditation every day. But most importantly, in front of a small team, it is fine for me. It’s more the live-on scene that I can’t. I freeze. I never liked doing live shows or theatre for this reason. I love films and Tv shows because even if millions of people can see me, I do not see them during the time I perform. So, bravo to singers that perform in front of thousands of people! That’s something I couldn’t do.
